Four Hours of Pure Sanity on Green Island

For the past four years, I have been travelling to Cairns from Brisbane for work and it never once crossed my mind to take a catamaran across to Green Island.
Green Island is only 45 minutes from Cairns by catamaran and seriously all you need is half a day to see and experience the island.
One afternoon that I had free time in between work, I put my swimmers on, took a towel and a bottle of water, walked to the pier and purchased a ticket for the 1pm departure to Green Island.
The Catamaran ride was picturesque. There was so much colour in the sky, water and mountains, I really have never seen such beautiful colours. The closer you get to Green Island the more beautiful it gets. The water changes from a clear blue to a stunning aqua…it is so beautiful that you must see for yourself.
Green Island is a very popular destination and I’m not going to lie, I did find the beach a little crowded with tourists everywhere but I wasn’t looking for a swim. I was instead looking for time to just be, relax and take it all in. I walked towards the beach and kept walking until I found a quiet space to have to myself.
The island is very well equipped with sun chairs, umbrella shades, there’s also a bar, restaurant, showers and toilets as well as a resort where you can spend the night if you wish.
Now for vegans, I strongly suggest that you take your own food because they do not cater for us. I found it difficult to find something on the menu for me to eat. So instead I waited till I took the ferry back to Cairns and bought something there instead.
The experience is worth every dollar and you will never see anything more beautiful. If you ever happen to visit Cairns, then I highly suggest that you make the time to visit Green Island.
